Local historians Frank and Michal Barrett will talk about abolitionist Jonathan Morris, who lived in what we call the White House in Cannelton, Darlington Township, Pennsylvania.
Frank and Michal Barrett were both trained as educators. Frank holds a BA in History from Bethany College and Michal holds a BA in Elementary Education from Bob Jones University. While she is retired and he works in the private sector, they still teach and share their love of history with others by doing programs such as “In Search of an old Abolitionist.” In addition to presenting the occasional program, the Barretts spend a lot of time pursuing genealogy, both theirs and helping others. They are actively involved with Alliance Area Preservation Society’s Haines House Underground Railroad site (which is also the place where they met_ the Sebring Ohio Historical Society, NSSAR, NSDAR, Mahoning Valley Civil War Roundtable, and the Quaker Hill Cemetery / West Preparative Meetinghouse.

This event is bringing community members together to share their personal experiences around the East Palestine train derailment incident. These important stories will be captured, preserved, and shared as part of the historical record of Northern Beaver County and surrounding communities.
We are especially interested in first-hand stories from first responders, families with children, business owners, people who were working in the area, those with pets and livestock, farmers, residents who evacuated or could not evacuate. How were people getting their news? What were family, friends, and neighbors doing and thinking during this incident? Did people endure physical, psychological, emotional, and financial hardships?
Event features:
- All-inclusive, inviting space for people to share in their own words their personal stories with the community
- Open to the public and suitable for all ages, ADA accessible
- Moderated program
- Event also includes pre-recorded media from the community
- Variety of community participants with first-hand stories
